The Land Transport Authority board has approved the proposal for increase in bus and taxi fares however the final decision lies with the government.

LTA spokesperson, Ratu Eroni Volavola said the decision has been forwarded to Transport Minister Timoci Natuva for endorsement.

Natuva confirmed receiving the decision from the LTA Board yesterday and said the transport ministry is preparing a cabinet paper.

He said following cabinet's endorsement, the final decision will be announced. Natuva also refused to reveal details of the decision taken by the LTA board.

Both the Fiji Taxi Union and the Fiji Bus Operators Association applied for increase in their fares following the increase in fuel prices last month.

It’s unclear how much increase has been proposed by the bus and taxi industry.
