Police have advised the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to cancel the licenses of people who have been booked repeatedly for serious road offences, in an effort to reduce accidents and fatalities on our roads.

The LTA Chief Executive Etuate Koroi and Police Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra had an urgent meeting yesterday to discuss the action they will be taking on those drivers who repeatedly are caught breaking road rules.

Mishra confirmed the advice given and added they will supply the LTA with records of all those drivers who have been booked for careless and dangerous driving.

He said this step needs to be taken as most drivers have become careless on our roads and a serious stance needs to be taken.

Meanwhile, the 35 year old woman who is also four months pregnant is still admitted in a critical condition at the CWM hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the bus accident at Edinburgh Drive on Wednesday night.

Another man is also admitted with serious head injuries.

A school teacher in his early 40s who was a passenger in the Dee Cees bus died a short while after the tragic accident.

Police said the Dee Cees bus was heading towards Suva when it collided with the City Line Transport Bus, travelling in the opposite direction and which had veered onto the Dee Cees bus lane hitting it head on.

In a separate incident, another man also died at the Lautoka hospital after the vehicle he was driving veered off the road in Viseisei, hitting an electric pole on Monday.

Meanwhile, the LTA has completed its investigations in relation to the Raiwaqa bus accident last week at Grantham Road where an FIT Student was hit and who is still admitted at the hospital.

LTA Spokesperson Ratu Eroni Volavola said they will now hand over the investigations report to the Police to take further action.
