Former rugby star Maleli Kunavore was laid to rest today at his village of Nakalavo in Nadroga.

The 29-year-old Kunavore passed away last week.

Hundreds of family members, friends and rugby players bid their final farewell to the former Nadi Muslim college student.

Former Nadroga coach Reverend Joji Rinakama said Kunavore is one of the most disciplined players he has ever coached.

Kunavore was a member of the Ilivasi Tabua coached side that reached the quarter finals of the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.

Some of Kunavore’s team mates from the 2007 world cup were also present today in the likes of Norman Ligairi, Ifereimi Rawaqa, Semisi Naevo, Viliame Gadolo, Alefoso Yalayalatabua and Aca Ratuva.

In early 2010, Kunavore underwent a cardiac operation in France while he was playing for Toulouse.

Kunavore is survived by his wife Bulou Sema.
