The application for bail pending appeal by former Nasinu Town Council Clerk Jaswant Kumar was yesterday turned down by the Suva High Court.
Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando in making his ruling said that there was no guarantee of success in the appeal and therefore ruled against the application made by lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry.
Justice Fernando also said that it was normal procedure that there be exceptional circumstances surrounding the appeal however he did not see any in this matter, and therefore ruled that Kumar remain in prison while the matter is set for hearing in the Appeals court in June.
Kumar was found guilty of abuse of office while he was the Town Clerk and the Acting Manager Finance at the Nasinu Town and he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.
