Fiji’s long distance runner Bimlesh Kumar has settled for silver in the 8km cross country event at the Oceania Masters Championship in Australia in the last hour.

The 38-year-old finished in a time of 31 minutes and 6 seconds which is just 4 seconds behind the winner.

His younger brother and Jet runners club of Nadi President Abhinesh Kumar said this is just the icing on the cake after Bimlesh settled for a bronze medal in the 5,000 metres race on Monday.

Bimlesh Kumar paid $5,000 from his own pocket for the trip and the last time he represented Fiji was at the Pacific Mini Games in 2001.

The Nadi school teacher will take part in the 3,000 metres steeple-chase and the 1,500 metres race later this week.
