Fiji soccer star, Roy Krishna who is making his name in the A-League is wondering about the priorities of the Fiji Football Association, which has been focused on getting the country’s youth team into this year’s FIFA Under 20 World Cup.
Speaking to The Guardian, Krishna said they have the Pacific Games, but apart from that, he has no clue when they are getting their next game.
Krishna who is originally from Siberia, Labasa said he thinks the Fiji soccer team has got potential to beat some of the overseas teams, but one needs to spend money on the team.
Krishna who is the first Fijian to play in the A-League and the first Pacific Islander to score in the competition added FIFA could do more to turn things around in the Pacific.
He said there is a lot of talent in Fiji, and even in the other Pacific islands, but they are not lucky enough to get out of there and it just disappears in the islands.
Meanwhile, Fiji has not played an international soccer match in last two and a half years and is now ranked 192nd on the FIFA rankings out of the 209 countries.
Oceania countries like Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Tahiti and New Caledonia are ranked above Fiji.
Fiji FA President, Rajesh Patel had earlier said that they are concentrating on putting resources elsewhere.
He said their main focus is on the Vodafone Fiji Under 20 soccer team which will play in the FIFA Under 20 World Cup this year.
