More than 23 houses in Koroqaqa, Ba are under flood waters as heavy rain has caused severe flooding in the area.
Speaking to Village news from the scene of the floods in Ba, Station Officer Ba Inspector Peniasi Nabuta confirms that the entire area has been closed off and the families have shifted to higher ground as flood waters are still rising.
Confirmation also that the Queens Highway at Sarava Ba is also under flood water and is now closed to all the traffic.
Namasau bridge is also under two feet of water, Toge, Veisaru and Balevutu bridges are also under 3-4 feet of flood water and is closed to all the traffic. The Rarawai flats and the FSC road are also under four feet of water and is closed to all the traffic.
Businesses in Ba town are now shutting down and owners are taking precautionary measures. Speaking to Village news RC Manubhai employee in Ba Ravineel Kumar said they are moving all their stock to the bulk house as the Ba River is rising very rapidly.
There is also flooding in Lautoka. Police confirmed that Drasa Dam road in Lautoka is also under flood water.
It has also been confirmed that Mataniwai and Nabuna Bridge are under two feet of water and closed to all traffic.
In Tavua, Police confirm that Yaladro Flats are under 5 feet of water as the water level at the Tavua Bridge continue to rise.
Police in Rakiraki confirms the Rewasa Bridge near Vaileka town is underwater after the heavy downpour early this morning.
Police said rain has stopped but the bridge is still flooded and Police are monitoring the situation. The road is still open to traffic but motorists are advised to take precaution.
Nadi Weather Office Deputy Director Alipate Waqaicelua is urging people living in flood prone areas to take precautions as flash floods are expected.
Waqaicelua said continuous heavy rain is expected in the North and North western parts of the group for the next 24 hours.
