Komaisavai Pleads Not Guilty
Komaisavai pleaded not guilty to the charge of escaping from lawful custody today when he appeared before Magistrate Alofa Seruvatu in Nasinu. He told the court that he went to the Valelevu Police Station to meet the crime officers on Saturday. However he waited outside the station for long but did not get any response from officers so he left. He told the court that he did not escape from custody as he is not a coward.
He also told Magistrate Seruvatu that he has been victimised by police because he made a statement against the Interim Attorney General. He then went on to say something about the Interim government when Magistrate Seruvatu stopped him warning thim she will not entertain any political comments.
The DPP Lawyer made application for Komaisavai to be remanded in custody however he was released on bail for $500. The Case has been adjourned to 25th of this month.
Meanwhile, Komaisavai appeared in the Suva Magistrate court this afternoon charged with assaulting his wife in 2003. He applied for the bench warrant to be cancelled which Aminiasi Katonivualiku cancelled and he has been released on $200 Bail. This case has been adjourned till the 7th of October.
Police have today clarified that any comments which can lead to the downfall of the Interim Government will be deemed as seditious.
Director of Police Operations, SSP Waisea Tabakau said under the Public Order Act a number of factors determine what a seditious comment is.
When questioned by Fijivillage News on what actions will be taken against those who will make strong negative comments against the Draft Peoples Charter, SSP Tabakau said people should be more careful of what they are saying publicly.
