Tonga’s King George Tupou V has died in Hong Kong.
Tongan Prime Minister Lord Siale’ataonga Tu’ivakano announced this to the people of the island kingdom this morning.
King George Tupou V, who was 63 years old, has long suffered a range of illnesses and last year had a cancerous kidney removed in the United States.
Tongan journalist Monalisa Palu reported on the people of Tonga mourning the loss of their king.
King George Tupou’s brother and now the new king, Tupouto’a Lavaka Ata, was with him when he died.
