A 48 year old man charged with dangerous driving occasioning the death of a six year old boy five year years ago was today handed down a suspended sentence by the Suva High Court.

The court heard that on 6th July 2005, the six year old boy and his two elder brothers were returning home after school and were trying to cross the road at Makoi 8 miles when he was bumped by a car driven by Jitendra Singh.

In mitigation, Singh told the court that he was married with a daughter and looks after his old mother.

He also informed the court that he has been driving since 1992 with a clean record and was remorseful.

Suva High Court Judge Justice Priyantha Nawana sentenced Singh to 12 months imprisonment suspended for three years, $1000 dollars fine and one demerit on the drivers license to be imposed.
