After opting to stay silent for days on the detention of businessman Ballu Khan, Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama has today said that it is clear that Khan is pretending that he is sick and injured because he does not want to be questioned by police and remanded in custody.
Commodore Bainimarama also said the independent doctors have already recommended that Khan does not need any surgery and he is not carrying any serious injuries.
Based on that analysis, the Interim Prime Minister stress’s that Khan will not be allowed to leave for NZ for medical treatment as he does not have any injuries or sickness that requires overseas treatment.
Ballu Khan's Auckland based Queens Counsel is disappointed that his application to get Khan back to Auckland for a medical checkup has not gone through.
Peter Williams in an interview with Pacific News said that although police here are supportive, they are facing difficulties in getting the release.
While lawyers representing Ballu Khan are still awaiting a formal reply from the Police on whether Khan will be allowed to leave for medical treatment overseas, Police are still tightlipped on their next move on the matter.
Speaking to Village News, Deputy Police Commissioner, Eroni Antonio confirms that no meeting on the matter occurred yesterday and adds that so far there has been no talk on Khan going overseas for medical treatment.
Antonio adds that all they know is that Khan is still admitted at the Suva Private Hospital.
Meanwhile, it is still not known why lawyers representing Khan withdrew the case filed against the Police Commissioner and others for alleged assault and wrongful confinement of their client yesterday afternoon.
