Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa’s comments in parliament yesterday had racial overtones.
While speaking in parliament, Ro Teimumu indicated that SODELPA is still working with some other parties to try to repeal or amend the current constitution.
Ro Teimumu made it clear that they do not agree with the way the constitution was approved and they do not support some sections of the document.
The constitution can only be amended after 75% of support in parliament 75% of support from the total number of registered voters in a referendum.
She called on the government to reinstate the Itaukei, Multi-Ethnic and PSC scholarships.
Ro Teimumu also raised concern about the 2006 coup and said there should be limited comments on the case regarding the people involved in alleged seditious acts in the west as it is before the courts.
She wants the RFMF numbers to be reduced and the soldiers to go to the barracks.
Ro Teimumu also says they are the opposition and she does not see any problems in continuing to question the results of last year’s elections.
Meanwhile Bainimarama has told Legend FM News that Ro Teimumu does not understand the idea behind the Tertiary Education Loan and Scholarship Scheme that has more students in tertiary institutes and universities than ever before.
Bainimarama says Ro Teimumu could not come up with anything that close when she was the Minister for Education.
The Prime Minister further says that Ro Teimumu wants to reduce the numbers in the military but she does not understand why they maintain the numbers they have.
Bainimarama says this is to fulfill the RFMF’s role as stated in the constitution and the peacekeeping deployments.
