Flying Fijians coach Ilivasi Tabua has named Kele Leawere as the new captain and Stormers based Sireli Naqelevuki as the vicecaptain for the team, in their first away game against the Cherry Blossoms in Japan on Saturday.
Speaking to Fijivillage sports, Leawere said that it is an honor to be selected captain.
Leawere's role at the helm has not come as a surprise, as he has already captained the Fiji team in three occasions - twice in 2004 against the New Zealand Divisional 15s side and winning their second match by 61-22 and once in 2007 where they had a draw game, 14-all against Australia A.
Leawere adds that he is fortunate in having Naqelevuki to assist him as most of the young players look up to him.
France based winger Filimoni Delasau has been ruled out of the Flying Fijians team for their third Pacific Nations Cup match against Japan after signing on a new contract.
Speaking to Fijivillage sports, Flying Fijians captain for the Pacific Nations match against Japan - Kele Leawere, said though he will be missing two key players - Mosese Rauluni and Filimoni Delasau, he is adamant replacement players will deliver.
Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians team left our shores this morning for their remaining IRB Pacific Nations Cup matches off-shore, against Japan on Saturday, against Australia A in Brisbane on June 29 and their last game against Tonga in Nulualofa on July 5.
