Miss Aoteroa Pasifika New Zealand Paretauno Randal one of the 12 contestants vying for the 2009 Miss South Pacific crown said she is out to show the public, ways to keep our culture alive during a very busy lifestyle.
Randall whose comes from a Maori background said it is time to mix the old ways with our modern lifestyle.
The 25 year old joins 11 other contestants who come from neighboring islands like Samoa, Solomon Islands and even French Polynesia to take part in the 2009 South Pacific Festival which focuses on climate change and preserving our cultures.
Tonight is Micronesia and Melanesia Night where the contestants will be showcasing their various cultural dances, with public judging starting on Wednesday.
