Exports of kava once raked in more than $40 million in exports, and the Kava Council believes the industry has the potential to once again help increase foreign exchange earnings.
Chairman of the Fiji Kava Council Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo said they are grateful that the Government has recognised the potential of the kava industry as one of the key commodities that could lift export potential for the country.
Nawalowalo said they have made a submission to Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to regulate the industry to improve export quality.
He added despite the ban placed on the exporting of kava to certain markets, the Council believes, the industry can still earn a substantial amount with other markets.
