The Ministry of Justice has today confirmed that the Official Receiver Viliame Katia’s appointment was terminated last Wednesday, following an investigation by the office and referral of the matter to FICAC.
A major investigation is now underway as FICAC says Katia allegedly misappropriated a large amount of money from the Official Receiver’s Trust Account.
FICAC says this alleged fraud has been committed over a period of 4 years by creating false documents.
FICAC confirms that it commenced investigations last week after a complaint lodged by the Solicitor General Sharvada Sharma.
Katia was questioned and released by FICAC late last week.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Justice says given investigations by FICAC are ongoing, they cannot make any further comments.
