Australia is hopeful fullback Billy Slater will be fit for Sunday’s Rugby League World Cup final against New Zealand.

Slater missed the semifinal win over Fiji after aggravating a knee injury in the quarterfinal against the USA, but was able to train yesterday.

Australia coach Tim Sheens confirmed that Greg Inglis will once more be at fullback if Slater fails to recover but if Slater is fit to play then Inglis will return to centre.

New Zealand have doubts over winger Manu Vatuvei and second row Frank Pritchard, but Roger Tuivasa Sheck has recovered from an ankle injury.

The Kiwis defeated Australia in the 2008 Rugby World Cup final
34-20.

New Zealand will meet Australia at 3:30am Sunday.
