Veiuto Primary School class 8 student, Filimoni Savou left the country this morning for North Yorkshire in England to attend Terrington Hall Preparatory School as the first Kaji rugby player to be offered a scholarship abroad.

The U-13 Suva Kaji captain, the son of former Fiji 7s coach Jo Savou, has been given the scholarship to attend the English school.

It all initially came about last year while FRU senior development officer Oscar Umuumulovo was coach of the Fiji U12 team for their Test against Tonga.

Umuumulovo was asked to name an outstanding player from that game and his choice was Filimoni.

The scholarship was the idea of former FRU marketing manager Charlie Charters, who now resides in England, and the request came from Charters via the Fiji High Commission in London to the FRU.

Filimoni has come through the Kaji system and was chosen not just because he excelled on the pitch but also because he was also good in the classroom.
