Chiefs midfielder Richard Kahui has picked up another shoulder injury during training.
He missed the Super Rugby win over the Sharks with a hamstring problem.
Chiefs coach Dave Rennie said they know little about the new injury.
Kahui has had four shoulder reconstructions in the last six years.
The Chiefs will play the Rebels at 9.40pm this Friday.
At 7.35pm the Blues will play the Stormers.
