Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies have arrested two juvenile suspects in connection with yesterday’s fatal shooting in the Fruitridge area which resulted in the death of Fijian athlete, Roy Ravana Junior.

Sacramento Bee reports that the two suspects, who were not identified because of their age, were booked into juvenile hall earlier today.

One is 16 years old and the other is 17.

According to Sacramento Police, the two were booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and face sentencing enhancements because of their ties to a gang.

Police say it is not clear whether the victims fired any shots or whether they had any gang affiliations.

But friends and family of Roy Ravana Junior say they did not know of any such criminal behavior by the young man.

Manager of the Sacramento Lions rugby club, Aaron Frederick said “none of this fits with the person they knew”.

He said Roy Junior was a very nice person and they are shocked.

Another friend, Ilene Lasaisamoa has told the Sacramento media that Roy Junior was too good‑hearted to be part of any gang activities.

Detectives have yet to identify a motive for the shooting, which occurred at the corner of 48th Street and Baker Avenue in South Sacramento.

Two men in their 20s were struck in the gunfire.

Roy Ravana Junior died at a local hospital while the other is expected to survive his leg injury.

The alleged shooters were among several people detained by officers who first responded to the area.

Shell casings strewn across two blocks of 48th Street indicate the shooters continued to fire as they fled the area where the shooting began.

Authorities have not said how many shots were fired, but in interviews with The Sacramento Bee, witnesses described hearing six to a dozen shots.

Meanwhile Roy Junior’s father, Roy Ravana Senior said he is likely to leave for the US this weekend to bring his son back for the funeral.

Funeral details are yet to be announced.
