The Junior Fijians team bowed to their Pacific Island counterparts, Tonga, losing by 20-28 to claim 14th place at the IRB Junior World Championship.

Fijian dominance in the forwards gave them a steady stream of penalties with fly half Sakiusa Malai hitting the target twice in the opening 20 minutes of the match to give his side a 6-5 lead.

In a statement on IRB website, Fiji head-coach Rayne Simpson said they dominated the set pieces but their usual style of play was undoubtedly affected by the wet conditions.

Simpson adds due to indiscipline they had 20 minutes with 14 men.

However Simpson said the tournament has been a fantastic experience for players and it can do only good for rugby in Fiji to play at this level.
