Judge rejects application
Judge Gounder ruled that he did not find sufficient ground to grant the application as the reasons given by the DPP was that the men are a threat to national security.
However, Gounder said no evidence has been put before him to substantiate this claim and thus the bail conditions set out earlier by the Magistrates court remains in place.
There are some variations which have been allowed by Judge Gounder. The court heard that the Qaranivalu Ratu Inoke Takiveikata was not present today as he is admitted in hospital.
After concerns were raised by DPP Lawyer Asishna Prasad that the bail condition requires them to reside at one address, Judge Gounder ordered that Ratu Inoke can stay at hospital for eight days after which further permission has to be obtained from court.
Another accused, Siviniolo Naulago informed the court that he has to attend his fathers funeral in Lautoka. He has been given permission to reside at Sabeto Village until March 10th.
Ratu Inoke and Naulago along with Ballu Khan, Colonel Jone Baledrokadroka, Fihoko Gadekibau, Barbeddoes Mills, Metuisela Mua, Eperama Waqatairewa and Pauliasi Namulo earlier pleaded not guilty to three counts of conspiracy to murder the interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama, Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry and Interim Attorney General Aiyaz sayed Khaiyum.
