Judge refuses bail
Justice Shameem said that she was unable to disagree with
Magistrate Courts decision on bail for Poh Ching Sheu, Rajinesh Singh and Atunaisa Veitata.
She said even if their passports were confiscated, persons charged have been known to flee the country. She added that Singh's affidavit gave no information about the families business interest or ties in Fiji while the third applicant Atunaisa Veitata gave no information about his employment, financial and family ties.
She said that in these circumstances she was unable to say that the Magistrate erred in his approach and it was also noted that Rajinesh Singh was on a suspended sentence.
The three who have been in Police custody since 9th February are alleged to have tried to defraud Westpac Bank by depositing a counterfeit bank draft of 50 million Euros.
Case has been adjourned till 22nd February.
