Judge issues stern warning in court
That was the stern warning from High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo to Sikeli Waqavatu who is charged with 2 counts of attempted rape and robbery with violence.
The warning was issued after Waqavatu, who waived his rights to Counsel and represented himself, asked that he be released on bail.
In denying the application, Justice Temo bail told Waqavatu and the state lawyers to produce the complainants in Court and get their views if Waqavatu was allowed back on the streets as the Court had the obligation to protect victims of such offences.
The Suva High Court heard that on the 7th of July last year in Nasinu, Waqavatu is alleged to have attacked and robbed two women of their mobile phones and jewellery to a total value of $957 before attempting to rape them.
The matter has been set for mention on the 5th of March by which time the victim is to appear in Court to give her view on whether the accused should be allowed on bail.
