Suva High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday told the Legal Aid Commission to re-look at the way they address applications by remand prisoners as they are delaying court cases.

This is after a case where two men appeared before Justice Goundar charged with robbery with violence and informed the Court that were still awaiting word from the Legal Aid Commission.

Justice Goundar then asked Duty Solicitor, Mareta Savou whether she had any idea to the two accused application.

However, Savou informed the Court that she had not received any application at all.

Justice Goundar then informed her to go and have a talk with her director as it was becoming common now to have cases further delayed.

Justice Goundar said this is a breach of the accused person’s right to have a fair trial and the Legal Aid Commission needed to be transparent.
