A joint statement is expected to be issued this afternoon from the interim government and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited after an agreement was reached early this morning on the exclusive licenses held by Vodafone, Telecom Fiji and FINTEL.

Stakeholders who were involved in the four day long negotiation process confirm that it was decided that the details of the agreement will be made public today by the Permanent Secretary for Communication Amena Yauvoli.

Yauvoli is currently on his way to Suva from Nadi and could not be reached for a comment.

However, ATH Chief Executive Officer Tomasi Vakatora told Legend FM news that the agreement reached is in principle and is subject to approvals by the boards of ATH, FINTEL, Telecom, Vodafone and by the interim cabinet.

After years of public comments about opening up the telecommunications market, it has been confirmed that ATH and interim government officials signed an agreement at 3:30 this morning, which means that the telecommunications sector is now open and new competitors can enter the market.
