The Springboks World Cup winning captain John Smit will swap his rugby jersey for a corporate suit in July when he takes over as the Chief Executive Officer of the Super Rugby franchise the Sharks.

Smit’s appointment signals the end of his long playing career and will take him back to the team he played for 13 years.

The South African most capped player who also captained his country 83 times and led the Springboks to the 2007 World Cup win will leave English premiership leader Saracens next month after two years with the club.

Meanwhile, the Sharks will play the Cheetahs at 3:05am Saturday.

On Friday, the Hurricanes play the Force at 7:35pm while the Waratahs meet the Chiefs at 9:40pm.
