French media are reporting that former All Black and Hurricanes player Jerry Collins and his wife have died in a car crash in France.

They reported that 34-year-old Collins died this morning in a road accident.

Collins’ wife was also reportedly killed and their three-month-old daughter born on January 26 was taken to a hospital in Montpellier, “in a desperate state”.

Their vehicle was reported to have crashed into a bus, injuring two of the occupants slightly.

Collins had a distinguished rugby career.

He played 47 Tests for the All Blacks between 2001 and 2007, as well as 85 matches for the Hurricanes.

He joined French club Toulon after the 2007 Rugby World Cup and since then represented Welsh club Ospreys (2009-2011) and Japanese club Yamaha Jubilo (2011-2013).
