Jaywalking issues to be fixed
Jaywalking is when a person crosses the road carelessly or in an illegal manner.
The illegal manner, as simple as it may sound, is crossing the road anywhere or crossing the road at the traffic light crossing when the pedestrian light is not green.
Over the years, the problem has escalated and the younger generation is learning from adults to commit the road offence.
It had reached a level where people did not even know that jaywalking is illegal, what is jaywalking or people just became ignorant and did not care about the road rule.
Thumbs up to the Police Force and LTA officers who started the operation in the capital city this morning to educate people to follow the basic road rule.
Police officers were present at all the crossings in the main centre of Suva City.
They are also clamping down on the drivers not following the road rules.
Fijivillage witnessed the LTA officials book a taxi driver for stopping at a no parking zone to drop passengers.
This has also been a major problem over the years where drivers stop anywhere to pick or drop people.
LTA Manager Road Safety Timoci Satakala said they have started in Suva and hope that the people start following the road rules.
The operation will be carried out in other centers Fiji wide.
