An individual knows it is against the law but they still do it.

This is the view of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on jaywalking, a continuous bad habit which many people have on our streets that is dangerous, irresponsible and an offence.

Media Liaison Officer Doreen Narayan said it is against the law to jaywalk adding that people can be fined $10.

However, Narayan said it would be impractical booking all those who jaywalk, as it would be hard to keep track of them due to the process involved in identifying them, as a lot of people continue to do it.

This is the biggest hurdle the LTA is facing when tackling jaywalking.

Narayan said they are looking at making changes in conjunction with other stakeholders to penalize those who jaywalk, with proper procedures in place.
