$190,000 worth of assistance has been given to the victims of Hurricane Tomas by the Government of Japan.

Ambassador Yutaka Yoshizawa handed over the items to Fiji government officials at the National Disaster Management Office Warehouse in Walu Bay this morning.

Fiji government officials received the 100 tents and 500 blankets on behalf of the victims.

Yoshizawa said the Japanese government and people hope that the strong determination and resilience of the Fiji people, with government and international community support will be able to make a quick recovery from the effects of Hurricane Tomas.
