Former All Blacks winger John Kirwan wants to be remembered as the first ever Japan 15's rugby coach to defeat the Flying Fijian on their home soil at Churchill Park.

Kirwan has achieved a lot in his rugby career with Auckland and the All Blacks in winning the first Rugby World Cup in 1987, and the 45 year old is eyeing the opening Pacific Nation Cup game against Fiji on Saturday as an opportunity for him to write his name on the rugby record book between the two nations.

He came close last year and was denied in the last minute try from Fiji's number 8 Netani Talei, with a 40-39 score line, a result which he wants to avenge this year.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Kirwan said he is aware of what to expect from the Flying Fijian team and rugby fans will be treated to one of the best games ever.
