Japan out to defeat Fiji on home soil
Kirwan has achieved a lot in his rugby career with Auckland and the All Blacks in winning the first Rugby World Cup in 1987, and the 45 year old is eyeing the opening Pacific Nation Cup game against Fiji on Saturday as an opportunity for him to write his name on the rugby record book between the two nations.
He came close last year and was denied in the last minute try from Fiji's number 8 Netani Talei, with a 40-39 score line, a result which he wants to avenge this year.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Kirwan said he is aware of what to expect from the Flying Fijian team and rugby fans will be treated to one of the best games ever.
Kirwan is confident that although the Cherry Blossom are ranked 13th in the IRB, they will put up a good fight for 80 minutes against Fiji who are three places above them.
The Fiji and Japan match kicks-off on Saturday at 3pm at Lautoka's Churchill Park and you can catch a live commentary of the match on our sister station Viti FM.
