Japan embarrassed Fiji at home last year after beating the Flying Fijians by 24-13.
Under the guidance of former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones who took over from John Kirwan, the Cherry Blossoms are riding high after winning the Asian cup last month.
Jones stated on the IRB website that they are aiming to win their second PNC title in a row.
Japan is ranked 14th in the world while Fiji lies in 16th position.
Fiji has never won the PNC in its six year history with Junior All Blacks claiming the title three times while New Zealand Maori, Samoa and Japan have each won the title.
Flying Fijians coach Inoke Male said they have worked out a plan not only for Japan but for the rest of the tournament.
Fiji will play Japan at 10:10pm tomorrow before facing Samoa on Sunday at 3:10pm.
