The 27 Methodist Church ministers and executives charged with allegedly breaching the Public Emergency Regulation appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.

After concurrence between the Defense and Prosecution, Magistrate Thushara Rajasingha has set a hearing date from January 10th to January 28th next year.

The matter will be called for a pre-trial conference on September 27th.

The 27 church executives including Church President Reverend Ame Tugawe, General Secretary Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu, Reverend Tomasi Kanailagi, Reverend Manasa Lasaro and others are alleged to have organised a meeting in contravention of the PER and allegedly participated in a meeting in breach of the PER.

All 27 have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged that the Church Executives and Ministers organised the Methodist Church conference in Lomanikoro, Rewa, despite a directive from the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama that the meet was not to be held.
