A 23 year old serving prisoner was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment today after he pleaded guilty to transporting 1.8 kilograms of marijuana.

On May 11th, 2008, Ronald Chand was travelling in a vehicle at about 4am when he was stopped and searched by police along Valley Road, Sigatoka.

Chand admitted to police that the drugs were leftovers from his planting and was worth about $700 and he was taking to sell to a buyer in Sigatoka.

Lautoka High court Judge Justice Paul Madigan noted that Chand is currently serving an 8 and a half year prison term for cultivating a large number of marijuana plants.

Judge Madigan sentenced Chand to four years which is to be served concurrently with his previous term of 8 and half years.
