The Suva Magistrate’s Court today sentenced a 25 year old man to four months imprisonment for giving false information to a police officer.

The court heard that on 10th June this year, Mohammad Kasin Reaza lodged a complaint with police that two boys robbed him of $7500 cash and an ATM card.

An investigation was carried out by police officers, after Reaza's father went to the bank on 11th June, where he discovered that $7500 dollars was withdrawn from the account the day before the robbery.

The father later confronted the son who admitted withdrawing the money from the bank.

The matter was reported to the police.

Mohammad Reaza pleaded guilty to his charges saying he was a first offender.

His lawyer asked the court to discharge the accused, however Magistrate Eparama Rokoika said that discharge is not suitable in this situation, and has put a lot of stress on the police officers who were investigating the matter.
