Former Assistant Commissioner Operations and current Solomon Islands Police Commissioner Jahir Khan is now under increased police protection following threats to burn down his house.
Khan told the Solomon Star that he along with several ministers, Attorney General Julian Moti received the threats which are related to the Oppositions motion of no confidence planned for last Friday.
He said that had the planned motion to unseat Solomon's Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare been defeated, the houses of those named would be burnt.
Details of the threats are in a Police Intelligence report on the dramatic political power struggle in the Solomon Islands last week. The Solomon Star reports that in the end there was no vote, with the Opposition withdrawing the motion at the last moment.
