It’s not over till the final whistle
It could go either way to the Gordon Tietjens coached New Zealand 7s team or the Stephen Betham coached Samoa 7s team.
Samoa are currently leading the points table on 140 points followed closely by New Zealand on 133 points while Fiji and Australia are tied in third position on 102 points.
Samoa will have to reach the finals to win the Series, however if they lose they gather 20 points and this means that they still win the 2009/10 IRB Series.
If New Zealand wins in Scotland, they gather 24 points, and their final tally will be 157 and if Samoa loses in the finals they gather 20 points, bringing a total of 160, which means they still lead New Zealand by three points.
New Zealand coach Gordon Tietjens said that this is what 7s rugby is all about, the winner is determined at the last whistle.
Samoa coach Stephen Betham said they don’t want to count their eggs as yet, and will treat each game as the final.
Samoa and Kenya play the first game at the Scotland 7s at 8:35pm on Saturday.
Fiji meets Scotland in their first pool game at 11:09pm.
Fiji is defending champions of the tournament.
