The responsibility of maintaining roads in the various municipalities should be carried out by the central government.
This has been proposed by the Labasa Town Counselors to the Local Government Review Reform Committee during their meet this week in Labasa. Town Mayor Dr. Pradeep Singh said such was proposed because a lot of financial help is needed from the government and the town councils are not left with revenue to repair roads with since wheel tax is paid to the Government.

Dr. Singh said the council had received $300,000 last year for road maintenance after the damages caused by the previous flood. He added other issues discussed with the Reform Committee were review of the outdated Local Government Act, modes of local government election, qualification of counselors and the need for involvement of the
central government into the affairs of the municipalities.
