The Public Service Commission has clarified that the ultimate target of the government is to get all civil servants on contracts and not just new recruits and those being promoted.
However, Chairman Josefa Serulagilagi said this will take time before all civil servants are contracted and assessed on their performance and merits.
Serulagilagi also revealed that as part of their road map for civil service reforms, one of the priorities is to centralize the ministries which have departments spread across in different locations.
Yesterday, Permanent Secretary for PSC Parmesh Chand confirmed that they have started contracting new recruits and those being promoted, on a three year basis.
