All Blacks coach Graham Henry said it was one of the hardest and most emotional decisions of his career as he picked young, Israel Dagg ahead of the old warrior Mils Muliaina at fullback for Saturday's World Cup clash against France.

The 23-year-old Dagg, who has played just eight tests and only two in 2011 has now officially ousted the 98-test Japan-bound Muliaina from the fullback position, with Henry admitting this was his strongest 15.

The 22 to face the French in the third Pool A clash was largely as predicted, with Dagg joined by Cory Jane and Richard Kahui in the back three, Piri Weepu getting the nod at halfback, Adam Thomson at No 8 and Sam Whitelock as Brad Thorn's locking partner.

All Blacks will take on France at 8.30pm this Saturday.
