It is time to give some ownership of a common name and identity to all the citizens of Fiji.
Interim Lands Minister Netani Sukanaivalu said it is disappointing to hear some people saying that to call every Fiji citizen "Fijian" will be disrespectful to the indigenous Fijians.
He said people should look deeper into the proposal rather than jump to conclusions.
Sukanaivalu said Fiji was built by everyone in the country and this needs to be acknowledged.
He said for too long, past governments have brought in racist and divisive policies just to be in power and to attract votes.
