The people of Lau have the potential to contribute to the agriculture sector however the problem of irregular shipping service will always be a major obstacle.

Close to 40 tikina representatives from Lau attending a workshop hosted by the Citizens Constitutional Forum were today shown how the Agriculture Ministry functions, how it utilises its yearly budget allocation, and the objectives the Ministry has set out in order to boost the agriculture sector.

Cicia Tikina representative Inoke Raivalita said the province of Lau have a lot to offer to the agriculture sector, as they mainly depend on it for their everyday lives, and would like to extend that beyond to just subsistence farming but also commercial farming.

Raivalita said while so many of them have aspirations to go into commercial farming, they are deterred by the fact that their hard work will all go to waste because there is no guarantee of proper shipping service to the group, to bring their produce to Viti Levu.

The workshop continues this afternoon.
