Members of the National Task Team 3 have noted that there has been economic stagnation, increasing religious and racial tolerance, widespread and growing poverty and a rising tide of violent crime.

At the first meeting held yesterday, the NTT3, co-chaired by Dr Jiko Luveni and Loraini Tevi, the team agreed that it was essential to involve community and civil society leaders and members of religious organizations to play an important role in harnessing the development and education of future registrations.

The Task Team decided that three Working Groups will be established to address a number of critical issues in the areas of Social-Cultural Identity and Nation Building. These include:

1) Poverty, Social Justice and Human Rights
2) Meeting Basic Needs: Education, Health and Housing and
3) National Identity and the Role of Religion and Culture in Nation Building.

These working groups, by mid March 2008, are expected to develop detailed recommendations on each priority topic for consideration by the NTT after consultations are done.
