As day one of the mobile phone war between Digicel and Vodafone closes this afternoon, it is evident that millions of dollars have been invested by these companies in the country and many more projects are expected to follow in the not too distant future.
Vodafone Fiji which has been in operation for 14 years in the country has already invested more than $250 million and its Managing Director Aslam Khan said they have other plans to extend their network.
Khan said they started off with humble beginnings but are ready for competition.
Meanwhile, Digicel Fiji CEO John Delves said they are known as the monopoly breakers and they now have the bigger and better network.
However, Vodafone Fiji's Aslam Khan said they also have 95 percent coverage and they are ready to extend their network soon.
A major issue which has already been addressed is that they have managed to secure an inter-connectivity agreement with Vodafone Fiji.
This sees Digicel phone users being able to call people who are using Vodafone and vice versa.
Meanwhile, the feeling on the streets is very clear.
People who Fijivillage spoke to have welcomed competition in the mobile phone industry and they said they know that they will be the ones who will ultimately benefit from this major battle.
Vodafone Fiji currently has about 650,000 customers while INK has 200,000 customers.
However, thousands of people lined up outside the Digicel shops around the country from early this morning.
