Police have established that the two kilogram’s of cocaine which was smuggled into the country may have been mistaken for bars of chocolates.
Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni told Village news that it has also been established that the drugs were allegedly brought through the airport security in a woman's hand bag.
Speaking to Village news, Acting Chief Executive of the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority, Jitoko Tikolevu, said that while they continue to investigate why the drugs were not detected, steps are being taken to acquire the necessary equipment to detect such drugs.
A Brazilian woman and a Columbian national await trial after being charged for allegedly smuggling the 2 kg of cocaine into the country last month.
Police investigations are still continuing into the matter after it was earlier revealed that locals may be involved in the incident.
