Preliminary investigations by National Fire Authority in the Lautoka fire which claimed the life of a five year old boy reveals that the fire may have been caused by his brother playing matches.
Divisional Fire Officer Structure Fire Safety, Tupou Saubulinayau said investigations into the cause of tragic house fire determined that the fire was caused by one of the children playing with matches which resulted in the burning of one of the queen sized mattresses in one of the bedrooms.
He adds that the high content of flammable material and lack of water resulted in the quick spread of the fire.
Meanwhile, Divisional Fire Officer, Western, Jon Pillay said that they will be taking the statement of the family members today.
