Investigation underway against land developing company
Lands Minister Netani Sukanaivalu has revealed to Fijivillage news that a piece of land in the Vatuwaqa industrial zone has now been cordoned off to the public as it is alleged that the Company reclaimed a total 60 acres of land without carrying out proper approval.
He said there was no environmental impact study or consent from the Qoliqoli owners.
And since last month, a private security company has been brought in to ensure no one enters the area as according to Sukanaivalu the company is now allegedly leasing the illegally reclaimed land to tenants and collecting the money.
The Lands Minister also said, the Company is also alleged to have illegally reclaimed land in the Raiwaqa area in past years without proper consent.
Sukanaivalu said an internal investigations is also underway to determine whether Government officials were involved with the Company in the reclamation work.
The State is expected to seek an eviction notice through the courts to remove the tenants and the Company from the piece of land.
The Company's Managing Director when contacted earlier by Fijivillage news refused to comment on the matter.
