International Womens day to be celebrated tomorrow
This is according to Fiji Women's Crisis Centre's Deputy Coordinator Edwina Kotoisuva who also lists domestic violence and sexual assault as issues faced by women.
Kotoisuva said these are some of the issues that will be raised in the upcoming International women's day, celebrated tomorrow.
International Women's Day will be celebrated with a "reclaim the night" march in Suva and Tavua tomorrow.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation is organising programs in the four divisions in Fiji to celebrate International Women's Day.
The national program will be held at the Civic Centre in Suva and the Prime Minister will be the Chief Guest for the special occasion.
There will be panel discussion on the implementation of the Domestic Violence Decree and the new Crimes Decree.
Workshops on various traditional handicrafts and flower arrangements will be part of the planned event at the Suva Civic Centre.
Fiji, after ratifying the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in 1995, has come a long way from the deprivation and discrimination of women on the grounds of sex, marital status, pregnancy and maternity and have achieved major milestones.
International Women's Day is celebrated internationally on the 8th of March throughout the world.
