The major causes of child labour are children not attending school, school dropouts, poor performance, absenteeism and low educational achievements.

These are the words of Save the Children Fiji Chief Executive Officer Chandra Shekhar marking World Day against Child Labour today.

Shekhar said together with economic growth social protection, understanding children's need and rights, education is an effective strategy to combat child labour.

Shekhar said children should be in school instead of being involved in any indecent work so that it prepares them for meaningful employment.

He said the government, parents and teachers play an important role in combating child labour.
